Dear Zindagi – Gale Laga Le : A Quick & Honest Review

Anari Talkies, Friends, Movie, Reviews

Well I am not an avid fan of Shahrukh Khan, neither of Alia Bhatt even. So technically I don’t keep a track/log of the release dates of their movies, but yes, I choose to watch a movie for few reasons –

1. If it musically connects me
2. If the poster of the movie is attractive (Yeah you read that right)
3. If the teaser/trailer is astounding

I didn’t know that a movie “Dear Zindagi” is in making as I don’t have the cushion to watch the music channels much now a days however, thanks to Android phones and their respective “Apps” which keep you updated with their early morning notifications right on top of your mobile screen. So this Friday when I woke up and found this “Book my show” intimation that “Shahrukh and Alia” starring “Dear Zindagi” is hitting theatre near you – Generally I just swipe out such notifications without reading the details but somehow I opened it and saw the poster of Shahrukh and Alia riding on 2 bicycles. Initially I thought it to be a “Cheeni-kam” / “Nishabd” / “Ek chhotisi love story” where the Hero and Heroine has got a huge age difference but still they fall for each other. Obvious reasons bro – Shahrukh and Alia cannot be a normal love story maker at their respective age…

Guess I was wrong!! And the below few, ok if not “few” lines will embellish why I was wrong.

Plot (Not a Spoiler One!):

Alia AKA Kyra is a promising cinematographer who wants to make her own feature film and not doing some segregated scenes of a big movie directed by other profound directors. There was a person Raghubendra (Kunal Kapoor) in her movie team who loved Kyra and tried to propose her but just like any other girl in movie and in real life – Alia was not sure and kind of rejected him. That was the night when Raghubendra was about to leave for New York for a film shooting offer and after he was gone, Alia realized that she was in love with him too. In this situation, the Icing on the cake was that she gets to know that Raghubendra is going to meet his ex-girlfriend over there. Turmoil starts, Alia couldn’t concentrate on anything, and she was kind of going mad and the story goes on… suddenly to cover a newly opened hotel, Alia and her team reached to shoot some videos and there she came across Shahrukh – AKA “Jug” who is a renowned smart easy to go Psychologist. Alia was so impressed with Jug’s speech that she took appointment with him and they both started to sit together for a stipulated time on regular basis to solve Alia’s issues and problems and finally Alia could really come out of the mental blockage she had been through for a while.

This is the baseline of “Dear Zindagi”. I won’t detail much on this else I have to write the entire story depicting all the characters – that’s not a movie review!!

Why should you watch the movie?

1.       Alia’s phenomenal performance – Yeah I would deliberately call it a performance, not “Acting” as not for a single second in the entire movie it felt like she is doing some sort of “Acting”. At certain times it was like Alia was stealing the show overriding the king khan.

2.       The simple, not-overburdened, amicable storyline.

3.       Background score – Amit Trivedi was again awesome.

4.       Direction – I love detailing especially when a movie is all about life, its ups and downs, how you handle the “Hi” to wonderfulness and “Bye” to different ailments – In this respect I think Gauri Shinde has done quite a nice job.

5.       King Khan’s “NoShaveNovember” look – Ladies you still have reasons to fall for him time and again for this 50+ year’s young person. Let’s don’t reiterate his acting capability here.

6.       Read point #1 again.

I won’t utter much negative words about this movie as that would be kind of forceful verbiage as if I have to so I had to..No “Pros” and “Cons” this time – Just go and watch the movie!!
